13th Cornell Probability Summer School (2025)

July 22, 2024 - August 2, 2024

WELCOME TO CPSS 2024! Organized by the Dynamics, Probability and PDE's in Pure and Applied Research Training Group. Planning for the 2024 CPSS is underway, and information will be posted as it becomes available.

Main Lecture Speakers:

Antonio Auffinger, Northwestern University
Title: Mathematical Spin Glass Theory
The study of spin glass models has led to a far-reaching and beautiful physical theory whose techniques have been applied to a large collection of problems in theoretical computer science, statistics, optimization and biology. Many of the physical predictions can be formulated as purely mathematical questions, often extremely hard, about large random systems in high dimensions. In recent decades, a new and exciting area of research has emerged in probability theory around these problems. The aim of the summer school is to introduce students to landmark results on the mathematics of spin glasses and explain some of the main open problems in this gorgeous field.

Hao Shen, University of Wisconsin, Madison
Title: Stochastic PDEs from quantum field theory
In this lecture series we will explain the basic ideas of the “stochastic quantization” program, in particular using stochastic differential equations to study Euclidean quantum field theory. We will focus on the Phi^4 model, including its construction and proof of certain properties. If time permits, we will also briefly discuss some gauge theory models.

Tianyi Zheng, University of California, San Diego
Title: Random Walks on Random Coset Spaces
Processes on unimodular, more generally stationary, random networks have been investigated from many different perspectives in the last decades. In this mini-course, we will focus on random walks on coset spaces of random subgroups. Basic notions such as random walk entropy, Poisson-Furstenberg entropy and related ergodic theory will be introduced, then illustrated on some examples of random walks on random cosets. Applications to some geometric problems and to Furstenberg entropy realization problems will be surveyed.
